Alumni Attitude Survey
Our Alumni Attitude Survey objectively evaluates alumni attitudes and engagement. It obtains feedback on the quality of the education alumni received, how satisfied alumni are with their campus experience, the extent to which the school was focused on student success and well-being, the sense of belonging alumni feel, their willingness to say and do good things for the school and the effectiveness of the school’s alumni outreach programs. HSR's Alumni Attitude Survey provides schools with a very comprehensive picture of how alumni feel. It obtains the actionable information schools need to build more engaged alumni communities and increase giving.
Alumni Engagement Scale (AES)
Our Alumni Attitude Survey includes a core set of twenty-five Likert-type rating items that provide an objective measure alumni engagement. Harford Survey Research has conducted numerous studies evaluating the reliability and validity of HSR's Alumni Engagement Scale (AES). We are presently evaluating the generalizability of it's factor structure across different types of colleges, universities and professional schools, as well as developing benchmarks for these different alumni samples.
The AES can be used to compare the attitudes of alumni from different campuses, academic programs and alumni groups, as well as benchmark a school’s alumni engagement scores against those of similar schools. The AES is also an excellent predictor of alumni giving; engaged alumni are much more likely to make gifts to their alma mater, and we have the data that support this claim. . When AES scores are combined with wealth capacity data, alumni advancement professionals have the information they need to identify alumni who are most likely to make a gift in the future.
In addition to these rating data, our Alumni Attitude Survey also includes a set of open-ended questions that obtain written feedback from alumni. We use a linguistics program to analyze these comments and to identify the variables that are most important to alumni. The written comments provide schools with much insight into alumni attitudes and give schools the actionable information they need to improve student and alumni experiences.
However, what truly differentiates our approach to alumni attitude surveys, is the tremendous amount of expertise and experience that our consultants bring to the table. We are experts at survey research, statistics, organizational design and alumni organizations.
